Knowledge management (KM) adalah sebuah konsep baru di dunia bisnis yang banyak digunakan di berbagai perusahaan. KM adalah sebuah proses yang mengkoordinasikan penggunaan informasi, pengetahuan, dan pengalaman. Tujuan penerapan knowledge management di perusahaan adalah untuk meningkatkan dan memperbaiki operasional perusahaan dalam mencari keuntungan kompetitif. Selain itu, KM juga digunakan sebagai “pewaris” agar jika terjadi pergantian generasi pekerja, ilmu, proses, serta pengalaman bekerja tidak hilang, tetapi terus diwariskan secara turun-temurun. Salah satu perusahaan internasional yang menerapkan KM adalah Hyundai Motor. Ada tiga tahap dalam mengimplementasikan KM di perusahaan ini, yakni mencari dan berbagi pengalaman, menempatkan infrastruktur KM dan budaya organisasi yang dapat memajukan perusahaan , dan yang terakhir adalah menjaga serta mempertahankan pengetahuan agar tetap diwariskan secara turun-temurun. Tidak diterapkannya KM di suatu perusahaan akan menjadi suatu kerugian besar. Pada tahun 2003, diprediksikan bahwa ada sekitar 500 perusahaan yang mengalami kerugian sebesar $32bn dikarenakan adanya rework, performa kerja yang di bawah standar, dan ketidakmampuan untuk menyelesaikan suatu pekerjaan. Selain itu ada data yang menunjukkan bahwa untuk menjadi pekerja yang benar-benar ahli dan sanggup menyelesaikan pekerjaan dengan baik dan benar, pekerja di perusahaan yang tidak menerapkan KM butuh waktu rata-rata enam minggu dalam setahun. Hal-hal tersebut sangat tidak efektif. Dengan menerapkan KM, hal-hal yang merugikan tersebut bisa dihindari. KM memberi manfaat bagi Hyundai Motor. Salah satu manfaat penerapan KM di Hyundai Motor adalah inventori di perusahaan tersebut mendekati nilai nol (zero inventories). Hal ini sangatlah menguntungkan karena semakin rendah inventori, semakin kecil cost.

® Can be tedious and take hours

® The rigidity of the consensus method can be a problem for many experts

4. The Repertory Grid

® Domain expert viewed as a scientist who categorizes a problem domain using his or her own model

® Grid used to capture and evaluate the expert’s model

® Experts see problems based on reasoning that has stood test of time

® A representation of the experts’ way of looking at a particular problem

® A grid is a scale or a bipolar construct on which elements are placed within gradations

5. Nominal Group Technique (NGT)

® Provides an interface between consensus and brainstorming

® Panel of experts becomes a “nominal” group whose meetings are structured in order to effectively pool individual judgment

® An ideawriting or idea generation technique

6. Delphi Method

® A survey of experts

® A series of questionnaires used to pool experts’ responses in order to solve a difficult problem

® Each expert’s contributions shared with rest of experts by using results of one questionnaire to construct the next questionnaire

7. Concept Mapping

® A network of concepts, consisting of nodes and links

® A node represents a concept and a link represents the relationship between concepts. (See next slide)

® An effective way for a group to function without losing their individuality

8. Blackboarding

® Assumes all participants are experts with unique experience

® Each expert has equal chance to contribute to the solution via the blackboard

® Process continues until the problem has been solved
